November Athlete of the Month - Rachel Davis

Rachel Davis is an energetic momma to her two wild boys (Eli, 6 and Harrison 3).  She’s a Registered Dietitian who helps people with weight loss and renal disease, a fitness enthusiast and says she will try any workout at least once.

Her favorite exercise activities include Barre at Barre Forte and workouts at Orange Theory Fitness.

“I try and work out at least 5 days a week doing one, or both, of these most days,” she says. “I also have a Peloton and enjoy that too.  My least favorite activity is running.  I still run at Orange Theory, but I really filled the need for distance running in my 20's and haven't had much of a desire for it since. I have never been a fast runner and I can feel defeated on that treadmill.”

Though she doesn’t love running, she’s proud of how her running has improved this year.

“[Before being referred to Courtney] I was having significant pain in my hamstring and hips. With Courtney's expertise and dry needling, I have been able to rehab, strengthen my hips and improve my running. I ran a 10:12 mile in July 2019, pre injury. I started coming to Courtney in March 2020 and improved my time to 9:43 in June 2020 and most recently in October I shaved off even more time and my mile improved to 8:55. This is a huge accomplishment for me and my short legs.”

Rachel’s main fitness goal is to keep up with her active boys.

“I have always been energetic, but I want to continue to be a good role model with my exercise habits.  Preventing injury and strengthening are a vital part in my daily practice.  I would also love to continue to decrease my running time and maybe even make it to the leaderboard one day at Orange Theory.  My boys love competing with running races and swimming laps and I want to continue to be able to do this with them.”

She exercises to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“About 6 months ago, hence pandemic, I realized I was using exercise more for my mental state than just physical.  While it is physical I see so many benefits in my overall well being. On days I am resting from intense exercise I try and do a low impact workout such as a walk or restorative barre class. I make better choices with my diet when I have activity.  My anxiety is also much improved with movement and can't we all use decreased anxiety right now?”

Rachel is proud to hail from Arkansas

“I am from the best state! GO HOGS!  I hear I still have an accent. I don't hear it but the first question people ask me is "where are you from?"  If you can get to Northwest Arkansas I can guarantee you will fall in love with it too.”

Her best advice to others is to just get moving!

“It doesn't matter what activity you enjoy, just move your body. I found my love of dancing with barre and my love for competitiveness with Orange Theory.  Grab a friend to join you. I always do a little better with some healthy competition.  I would also recommend knowing a good PT to help you when those ailments come.”

One sport Rachel’s always wanted to try is tennis.

“I played a little bit in the past, recreationally, but I would love to be on a women's tennis team. I've never been great at any sport involving an object meeting a ball so that might hinder this dream.
