September Athlete of the Month: Angie Deckert!

At age 67, our September Athlete of the Month, Angie Deckert, is all about staying fit and healthy so she can keep up with her family.

"I am working to stay in shape and be able to play and keep up with my grandchildren. I also want to keep moving!” Angie said.

Angie first came to Dr. Allison for help with her running form.

“She helped me understand what I was doing wrong and gave me exercises to help. I am able to continue to run and am doing well!” Angie explained. “During one of those early sessions, I mentioned that I have migraines. She was able to give me exercises, and with needling and scraping, I have only had one in the last 6 months!”Screenshot 2024-09-26 at 10.23.33 AM

When it comes to staying fit, running is both Angie’s favorite and least favorite activity. “It is hard sometimes, but it’s how good I feel physically and mentally afterward that keeps me going back,” she said.

She has also found a supportive community in TJ’s Running Family. “They have become my second family,” she shared. “During my husband’s cancer journey and subsequent passing, they were there for me with support, encouragement, and diversion.”

One of Angie’s proudest moments was running her first half marathon at age 66, just 4 days shy of her 67th birthday, where she placed first in her age group. She has also earned first place in several 5Ks.

Her next goal? “To continue running injury free and keep my stamina up.”

Along with running, Angie has added SASS classes at Natural Wellness to her workout routine.

“I really feel this has helped me become stronger and more flexible,” she said.

IMG_1455Beyond fitness, Angie is proud of her role as a grandmother.

“A little over a year ago, my daughter and son-in-law had twin sons, and I had the privilege to watch them every weekday for the first year. And I had the stamina to do it!”

Angie’s story shows that it’s never too late to focus on living and active and healthy life, and her dedication is truly inspiring!
