January Athlete of the Month: Brock Nooney
For Brock Nooney, fitness isn’t just an activity—it’s a way of life.
“It’s the ultimate form of freedom for me. It’s where I find peace amongst chaos,” he says.
Natural Wellness Physiotherapy is proud to celebrate Brock as our January Athlete of the Month, highlighting his dedication, achievements, and passion for inspiring others to chase their fitness goals.
Brock’s journey began in sports. “I grew up playing basketball, and found cross country and track in high school where I had tons of success,” he recalls. His talent and drive carried him to collegiate athletics, where he became an NAIA All-American. “The day I accomplished becoming an NAIA All-American was something I needed to prove to myself,” he explains. “I knew the work that needed to get done to make it happen would be worth it. I fell in love with the process.”
After college, Brock transitioned into weightlifting, but his competitive fire never quite went out. In 2022, he discovered the world of obstacle course and hybrid racing—a sport that combines strength, endurance, and mental toughness. “The sport of hyrox has given me a new purpose! I’m so grateful for this new sport, and I feel like I’ve finally found a sport that was built for me.”
Brock trains with intensity and purpose, dedicating an impressive 12 hours a week to his fitness. His current goal? A 65-minute Hyrox time. Along the way, he’s leaned on the Dr. Allison at Natural Wellness Physiotherapy to address and overcome challenges. “My lower leg issues have been slowing down my progress, but now I’m making incredible gains! I’m so grateful for the help and excited for the future accomplishments to come.”
What keeps Brock motivated? A deep love for movement in all its forms.
“Running, lifting, hiking—I honestly love it all! It pushes me to be ready for any and everything at the drop of a hat.”
But even he admits there are limits to what he enjoys. “Burpee broad jumps—they are the devil,” he says with a laugh.
Brock’s advice for others is simple but powerful: “Find something you’re passionate about and find ways to keep doing it, it doesn’t matter the cost. If you love something, you’ll find a way to make it work for you. Don’t stop.”
Looking ahead, Brock dreams of testing his fitness in new ways. “I want to try a mountain trail race—or even a bike race. I just want to see how I would do with my current fitness.” And while his training is rigorous, he still knows how to have fun. “I’ll beat anyone in eating warm Krispy Kreme donuts!” he jokes.
Brock’s story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of finding a sport or activity that sparks joy. Whether it’s chasing a personal record, embracing the process, or just moving for the love of it, Brock reminds us all to keep pushing forward. Congratulations, Brock, on being January’s Athlete of the Month—we’re inspired by your journey and excited to cheer you on toward your next goal!
