Dear women: Strength training is a key act of self-care as you age

Dear Women,

We want to remind you one very important principle that we hold dear to us at NWPT:

Weight training is an incredibly helpful form of exercise that you should not be afraid of.

If you’ve ever felt intimidated by the idea of lifting weights, just know this: The benefits of strength training far outweigh any fears you may have.

As you age, your body naturally loses muscle mass and bone density, which can lead to a number of health problems.

Strength training can help slow down or even reverse these changes, improving your overall health and reducing your risk of falls and fractures.

One study (2015-2022) found that strength exercises can be beneficial for improving menopausal symptoms. Yes, that means this kind of exercise can help you prevent hot flashes.

Low-to-moderate intensity resistance training has even been shown to prevent energy and fatigue from waning during pregnancy.

All of this is why we do it.

Weight training can have a positive impact on your mental health and overall well-being. It can boost your confidence, improve sleep quality, and reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.

We encourage you to start with simple exercises such as squats, lunges, push-ups, and resistance band exercises. Don't be afraid to ask for help or guidance from a trainer or coach if you're not sure how to get started!

Are you in the Wichita area? Reach out to us for recommendations on coaches and trainers and we’ll point you to who will best fit your needs. You can also come train with us in the SASS class on Monday mornings. We’re a group of supportive women working out together in a non-judgmental environment, suited for all skill and experience levels.

Dr. Allison guides each class member with clear instruction on proper strength training techniques so you can avoid injury. Plus, we’ll help you keep track of your performance over time and measure all the gains you’re making 💪

Pop by any Monday morning in May— we’re offering FREE sessions all month long so you can get to know this strong community, and build the accountability and support to stay active and mobile for many years to come.

Remember, weight training doesn't necessarily mean lifting heavy weights or using complicated equipment. With a little bit of effort and dedication, you can start to reap the benefits of strength training and improve your overall health and well-being.

So don't be afraid to hit the weights, and remember that you are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to.

Sincerely,

The Team at Natural Wellness
