Upper Back Weakness - What To Do

Last week we talked about those poor angry knots in your upper back causing so much discomfort with sitting. Well those muscles are just sending out signals that you are not treating them well. You've overstretched them to death by prolonged sitting. Sure, we can beat up on those muscles all day and get some temporary relief. However, for long-lasting improvement, we have to give them what they need--strength and endurance.

When we take that forward head posture, these scapular muscles are placed way out of position. It is necessary to retrain these muscles and only when they are strong enough and have good enough endurance to hold your posture in place will we eliminate that pain. The bad news is if we don't make a conscious effort to correct our posture and the mess that got us here in the first place, we will never overcome this issue.

The fix is simple--grab a band and throw these exercises into you routine of foam rolling and knot destroying.

Next week we get to the biggest culprit in all of this. Poor neck flexor endurance.
