July Athlete of the Month: Jenny!
Jenny is 44 years old and has been married to her husband, Ryan, for 20 years. They have two sweet boys who mean the world to her. She's a retired high school math teacher who now she spends her time taking care of herself and her family. She volunteers at her boys’ schools, at her church, and works as a private math tutor.
Jenny loves staying fit by going to Orangetheory Fitness (OTF). She joined in 2018 and hasn’t stopped since.
“I love the community and coaches there,” Jenny says. “I enjoy rowing and lifting weights the most. Outside of Orangetheory, I love anything outdoors, like taking walks, hiking, and riding bikes with my boys and husband. We also ride bikes and hike in Colorado several times a year.”
One of Jenny’s proudest moments was when she reached 1000 classes at Orangetheory.
“It shows my commitment to myself and my health,” she says proudly.
Her next goal is to reach 2000 classes.
Jenny exercises for many reasons.
“I want to be the healthiest version of myself and take care of the body God has given me. I want to live a long, healthy life with my family and be able to keep up with my boys (and grandkids someday)."
"When I exercise, I feel alive, energized, and grateful for my life and that I am able to move. I also exercise for my parents because they haven’t had the luxury of good health. I exercise because they can’t.”
Jenny has faced some challenges with her body, like a hip injury, knee pain, and tendonitis in her elbow. But she has worked hard to overcome them.
“I’ve overcome several challenges with my body, but I’ve never let them stop me,” she says.
Jenny is very connected to her church, Life.Church East Wichita, and to the Orangetheory Wichita East community.
“My relationship with Jesus is one that I work on every day. HE is who gives me strength and purpose,” she reflects.
“OTF is my happy place. I know all I have to do is walk in the door, and they have my workout and music planned for me. It is my one hour all to myself, and I always leave feeling alive and better than when I walked in. I also love the community of people there and the friendships that I have formed over the years.”
Jenny’s advice to others is simple:
“Get outside and move. Sunshine, fresh air, and movement can change your entire state of mind.”
Her bearded dragon, Bowser, often joins her family on vacations and walks on his little leash, making their outings even more fun.
Jenny also wants to see more of the world and visit places she has never been.
Her story is one of hard work, community, and never giving up. As Natural Wellness Physiotherapy’s July Athlete of the Month, she inspires everyone to keep going and to find joy in staying active and healthy.
