August Athlete of the Month - Amber Lane

“Be nervous, but never afraid.” These are the words Amber Lane sees every morning on a magnet and says to herself often as a reminder to not be scared to try new things--like swimming, biking and running long distances.

Last summer, she completed her first Half Ironman in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

“The fact that I could swim 1.2 miles, no matter how fast or slow was a major accomplishment.”

Prior to that, she had done four or five sprint and five Olympic triathlons.

Amber says her favorite way to stay fit is through running.

“[I exercise] for alone time and to help clear my head. I love to compete and push my body to the limit.”

Her next challenge is to run the Route 66 Tulsa Marathon in November. Running isn’t new to Amber, though. She ran track while she attended Sterling College. She also played soccer and was the NAIA women’s soccer 4th all time leading goal scorer with 126 goals and 41 assists.

If all that isn’t impressive enough, Amber is a science teacher and has been married for 25 years. She and her husband have two yellow labs, Jenna and Charlie.

Whatever she does next, she’s the kind of person who will continue to challenge herself and try new things. Perhaps her next venture will be tennis.

“I’ve always wanted to be a tennis player. My parents were great tennis players growing up and I always wished I took lessons.”

We wish Amber the best of luck as she trains for Tulsa!
