January Athlete of the Month - Janet Miller

Whether it’s in her career or running, Janet Miller is not stopping anytime soon. She works hard to stay active and is always checking off goals and moving on to the next one.

At the age of 65, Janet is a mother, grandmother, a huge WSU basketball fan. She works as a nurse anesthetist full time and plans to do so until she’s 70.

She’s run 12 half marathons and you can look for her at the 2021 Spring Prairie Fire Half where she’ll bring her total to 13. When she’s not running, she enjoys Barre and Pilates classes.

“I exercise for fitness and also because I just feel better when I do it.”

A while back, Janet was dealing with hamstring issues and thinking she was getting too old to run.

“Courtney convinced me I was not too old and that it was slowing down on my activities that was more detrimental than continuing activities with the appropriate support,” she said.

With some strengthening exercises and dry needling, Janet was back doing all her favorite activities without any issues.

“I also had chronic neck and shoulder tightness and aching, and again, the exercises and dry needling have freed me from that chronic pain and aching that I have had for years.”

Janet’s best advice to others who are wanting to be fit and active?

“Keep moving. Don’t ever think you are too old.”

When Janet does decide to retire, she hopes to learn photography. We have a feeling that with her drive to improve, she will knock it out of the park!
